It's no secret. Cleveland, Ohio — once a prime example of major industry, expansion and prosperity — has struggled.
Many communities that once thrived are now mere shells of themselves, and it's not uncommon to see empty sidewalks, abandoned factories and boarded-up windows.
One town, however — it seems — has bounced back, and in a big way. The Waterloo Arts and Entertainment district is as alive as it ever has been, and all due to one thing — the community's absolute dedication to independent businesses.
In fact, the district claims 100 percent independence. You won't find a chain, big box or major franchise anywhere.
It's inspiring, really. A town decimated by the exit of major industry returns stronger by focusing on developing close-knit community and individual expression.
MATERIALS
Waterloo, the hat, is similar in that way. It's resilient, but not by being hard. It's a traditional men's fedora, made with fine Australian wool, and finished in a soft felt that's stiff enough to not get pushed around, but flexible enough to roll with the punches, take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.
The Waterloo features a 1 1/4" black grosgrain band.

Pretty but STIFF
It's a pretty hat but it's so stiff, it sits on my head a bit like a construction helmet. Doesn't quite look so good on me.

Great hats!
I ordered two versions of the Waterloo: Maroon and Coffee/Sage. Both are gorgeous! I’ve gotten loads of compliments on them, and everyone knows I always wear a hat (fedora, trilby, panama). Note: these hats run a little large, but Two Roads is thoughtful and send hat band filler to help them fit better. This was really welcome since I got a haircut right after the hats arrived. I’m now considering (besides more hats) getting the carry cases so when I fly with more than one hat, they are kept safe.
