BEHIND THE NAME

Often, we talk about the road less traveled as an uphill, strenuous journey — cutting trail, forging rivers and fighting foes to discover new lands, develop muscles we didn't have or break away from the comforts and conventions that the masses have built to make the road easy-traveling, enjoyable and convenient.

And look — we don't disagree with any of that. We've certainly seen the fruits ourselves.

But does the road less traveled have to be difficult? Does it have to involve pain, sweat and risk to be considered uncommon, unconventional or brave?

We don't think so. Often, the road less traveled might mean kicking back, taking a break and disconnecting from the rat race. 

For that reason, we named this hat after a small, laidback town in south central Louisiana named St. Martinville. It's the kind of place you take in not by running around, but by sitting — rocking, even — on a porch on a warm summer night. Cold drink. Fireflies. Laughing. Waving at neighbors.

Slow down from time to time. Stop running so damn fast, enjoy a deep breath and take in the world around you. In times like these, that might be the most rebellious thing you can do.
